BTT observations

Illinois chokes. Hope they get their act together. They're too good not to make a deep run.

Hopefully Michigan has gas in the tank for the dance. Winning the BTT does nothing for their seeding.

Nebraska vs Purdue is interesting, although Purdue is romping, Gawd, how good could Iowa have been with Sandfort. And that Hoiberg headband is just bush league. Can Purdue right the ship and not do a dance choke again?

Bucky is a surprise and also irritating. They're like a splinter you can't quite totally remove.

Sparty will be a tough out...I hope they wallop UCLA so no westies make it any further.

I think the B1G has enough talented teams to load up the sweet 16, elite 8 and final four. After this season, the dance competition should look easier.

I've gone to both the Indianapolis and Chicago venues. Indy was Excellent. Chicago, not so much.

My two cents...

How did Purdue end up the 7 seed? A couple of months ago they were in the AP top 5 I thought.

its weird how Chicago has sports venues that are not so great for attending these events.

Maybe that will change if the Bears can get their tax plan approved to build a new indoor stadium in Arlington Heights. Might not be a bad site for the Big Ten tourney, but maybe it would be too big. Now If they end up building the new stadium in Hammond, IN, that may not not the best environment for the Big Ten Tourney.

The United Center is on the cusp of some really bad real estate. The three block walk to and from the Blue Line is dicey if you walk alone or stray off the path. Similar to going to a White Sox game. No thanks.

Indianapolis on the other hand really caters to the fan. The entire downtown area rocks. I stayed at the La Quinta and walked hassle-free to the stadium. There's a police station right in the middle of everything. Taxi's took you anywhere for cheap. Definitely a delight to attend.

Good post. I agree with everything you said. In particular, that Wisconsin is an irritating splinter. They just always seem to get it done, which creates a sense of aggravation and envy at the same time (mostly aggravation).

Also, I hope the Hawks are one of the B1G Sweet Sixteen you mention. Not likely, I know, but a man can dream, right?

Wisconsin is legit and can beat Michigan. Illinois gives up too many points so hard to see them make a run. Iowa and Nebraska being similar resulted in a Purdue win as those 2 don't make up well against Purdue though they match up nice against each other. :) MSU slow starts are dangerous in the NCAA where you aren't as familiar with teams and how to adjust so playing with fire 50/50 to make nice run or get picked off. UCLA guy got hurt helps Purdue so they had a nice path as the 7th seed.

My observation, after watching the BTT and the Big 12 tournament and Iowa State play, there is much more physical play in the BIG 12 it seems. It is like watching boys vs men.

Remember when the BIG 10 was known as this physical and tough bully conference. I don't think that has been the case for years. Watching Iowa St. vs AZ looked so much more physical and faster, IMO. Like noticeably different.

Sometimes that can backfire on a conference if fouls are called much tighter in the NCAA tourney than the way fouls were called in conference play.

I've been looking at the rosters of some of the top ranked teams. I'm watching MI vs WI and a guy named Rapp from Australia has made 4 or 5 3 pt shots in a row. Last night AZ beat ISU. They have 8 foreign players on that team. Iowa has 1. Another thing I found is almost all have 4 or 5 seniors . UCLA has 6. I don't have a clue what McCollum can do.

I'd say we know what he can do as a coach pretty much. I think you mean what can he do with recruiting and NIL. Jury still out on those. Of course NIL has to do with what the school wants to shell out or how much the "partners" or "collective" fork out really. He can only do so much to hold on to his better recruits or entice transfers here if there are better pay days elsewhere.

Arizona and UCLA also have a different western look and weather. Not sure the midwest teams can load up on foreigners more than have two maybe three. He got Folgueiras but lost out on De Ridder. De Ridder scored 15.9 points this year with 6.3 rebounds and was first team All ACC and all rookie(22 year old rookie lol). The number I found he is getting a "minimum of 218K/year". TBH at 6'9" and 240 and scoring 20 points in 11 games this year and boarding he is just what we needed really for the front court. His 205 rebounds this year would be #1 on the team 50 more than Banks' 155.

As far as the Final Four in the Big Ten Championship is concerned:

We beat UCLA in Iowa City: 74-61

We lost by 6 points at Purdue: 72-79

We lost at Wisconsin: 71-84

We lost to Michigan in Iowa City: 68-71

Not too shabby, Lads

We have a solid team that nobody wants to play despite the fact that we do not
have a legitimate presence in the middle

Can’t get a grip on Purdue. Couldn’t figure them out all year. I could see them getting to a Final Four, and I can also see them doing typical Purdue shit, and getting bounced early as a 3 or 4 seed.

I think the Purdue shit is more likely

True. It does seem like BIG teams have struggled in years past adjusting to the officiating in the NCAA.

You had my upvote at the headband comment.

One thing that's been obvious watching a lot of BTen games this season is that BTen refs typically 'let the teams play' the first half, and call the game much tighter with many more fouls in the 2nd half. I'd love to see the actual 1st and 2nd half foul numbers to compare, to see if that's reality or just my imagination.

Honestly, I don't care to EVER go to Chicago again.
