Great article by Chad Leistikoon on Bria in hawkcentral today.

Bria is already a fan favorite! You can just tell.

No agent, she almost passed out when Iowa contacted her, what's not to like.

One thought I keep having is that at 5'6" she won't even be the shortest player on the team!!

go hawks

Good take. I really liked the part when she basically said she would ride the bench if that is what it takes to help the team become successful. You have to love her attitude!

I was a DII athlete back in the day and hung around with a lot of guys who were top end of their sport at that level in football, basketball, and track. My take is that the top end of DII athletes in most sports would be contributors/role players in DI. We have seen guys come out of the lower levels in football and do just fine under KF (our All-American returner this past season, for one).

DIII is a big jump for sure, but I am betting she sees the floor in limited minutes and holds her own.

You dont have to go too far for inspiration. Bennet Stirz is another great DII to Big Ten success story. I know DIIi is a whole another level lower, but there are examples out there.

In football, Fred Jackson played his entire career at DIII Coe College in Cedar Rapids. He had a 9 year NFL career with the Bills and the Seahawks. Duncan Robinson, who is currently with the Detroit Pistons, started at DIII Williams College and transferred to Michigan.

Some athletes are late bloomers. They don't pop out of high school and go to a smaller school with better nutrition and weight training and all of sudden they get bigger faster and stonger and just bloom late.

Scottie Pippen came out of Central Arkansas!!

Another great example Kurt Warner did not start at QB at UNI until his 5th year at the school. Then did not get drafted into the NFL and went to work at Hy-Vee.

To make this a short story, after spending time in the Arena Football League and NFL Europe, he eventually got signed by the Rams and went on to be NFL MVP and pro football hall of famer. He lead 2 different NFL franchises to a total of 3 Super Bowl appearences and 1 Super Bowl win.
