I drove from Des Moines with two friends to attend the service for Bobby at Hancher. The service was very moving as several speakers eulogized Elliott. First was former defensive back, Bo Porter. He spoke about how much Bobby did for him in his life
during and after football. He used the lessons as a Major League Baseball manager.
Two former players from Notre Dame spoke about how he had changed their lives with one breaking up several times. But the highlight was delivered by the dynamic Dan McCarney. A former teammate and roommate at Iowa, Dan best delivered the essence of Bobby Elliott.
Attendance was a who's who of college athletics. Kirk and Mary Ferentz, Bill and Sharon Snyder, Bret Bielema, Bobby Stoops, Brian Kelly, Bob Bowlsby and of course, Bump Elliott. Barry Alvarez was on a long planned trip, but sent the Dutchman, Bruce Van de Velde from UW. There were also numerous former Iowa players and coaches.
Notable in his absence was Gary Barta. What a douchebag. A $6.5 million douchebag!
