Right now Iowa is the 7 seed. A double bye would be nice.

Its not confusing at all. You explained it perfectly! Its confusing to me cause the Big Ten men changed this year to an 18-team 6-day triple bye tourney. So technically the Iowa men, projected at a #7 seed, gets a double bye but they would like a top 4 seed with a triple bye.
Howwver the Big Ten women are sticking with the 15-team 5-day double bye tourney. The Iowa women I am guessing are projected to be a top 4 seed in the Big Ten tourney, which means they would get a double bye
Good summary. Thanks!Ok, I did some digging on the schedule. We are 8 right now with a double bye. Iowa HAS to win the next two games. If we do, that gets us to 11 conference wins with tie-breakers over OSU and Indiana (the only two teams that could move past us). Both teams would have to win out to get to 12 games. Those two teams play one another. Indiana also plays MSU. OSU still plays Purdue.
Beating OSU Wednesday is about as big a game as we will have coming up when it comes to final standings in the conference and the tourney. We then have to take care of business in Happy Valley and then the last two games are largely playing with house money.
I don't think there is a ton of difference as a Minnesota win doesn't move the meter much (although it avenges a bad loss on paper). But, assuming that we will lose in the round of 16 regardless, I suppose it helps the over record to go 1-1 in the tourney as opposed to 0-1.A question. If we got a lower seed and won the first game against Minnesota level team. Would that be better than getting a better seed and not winning a game? Maybe not a lot of difference?
I just watched MC’s press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s game. Lasted about 25 minutes. Was a wide, wide conversation, so actually more about the program than OSU. Talked a lot about Thompson that revealed much about MC’s commitment to the future.Indiana just did Iowa a huge solid by spitting the bit against northwestern. That helps Iowa's chances if staying above the double bye cut line. It also avenged the officiating favors Indiana got vs Wisconsin earlier this month cause the refs were not kind to Indiana late in tonight's game.
We can do ourselves an even bigger solid by taking care of business in about 24 hours.
Think it's Trey Thompson.Thanx for the information. I guess I don’t know Thompson? Incoming player?
Ben and Trey have both been on record a couple times saying Trey is just not ready. He is still like 18 and should be in high school right now. He came to Iowa early because he thought he would develop more with a year at Iowa (even if just through practice and training) then staying in high school another year. I had hoped he could contribute right away given the offers he had, but he apparently needs a year and has a positive attitude about that. Bigs and forwards usually take longer to be ready.Think it's Trey Thompson.
Highly rated frosh who's not played at all and redshirting.
Considering his bio, wondered all year what the story is on his lack of playing

Iowa should be salty at the wing and forward positions next season. They don't have a starting 1 yet or a 5, IMHO. Portal will be used for sure.
Ben has said that Trey was/is ready on the offensive side but he needed to develop his defense. Not surprising. Plus, he got mono and it set him back for about a month and a half which sealed the redshirt decision. Good article on this on hawkcentral.com but there is a paywall.Ben and Trey have both been on record a couple times saying Trey is just not ready. This is true of most teams. Over a 30+ game season, you tend to end up where you deserve in the pecking order of the conference, and that usually means you beat who is below you and don't the teams above you. It would be more frustrating if we had beat several teams at the top but then lose to Penn State, Rutgers, and NW.This year's edition of the Iowa basketball program suffers from exactly the same malady as so many pointed at McCaffery's teams in the past. They just can't beat the better teams above them. They are proficient at beating the sisters of the poor, and even those on the same level at times, but, with the exception of the Bugeaters ( a program I should be acknowledging as excellent, but can't), every team above them in the B1G standings has beaten us. We have two more on our regular schedule and one each of a terrible program in Penn St. and a similar one tonight in the Buckeyes. If we want to finish with a winning record in the B1G, it would behoove us to defend our home court against Ohio St. and finish 11-9. If we don't, it appears we would finish at .500, with an 10-10 record. Under the circumstances, either is a respectable finish for this team in their first season in one of the top conferences in America.
Good points. And it is difficult to beat the teams at the top of the B1G this year. Nit picking here but for the record, we did beat UCLA who is ahead of us also, even if by just one game. This year's edition of the Iowa basketball program suffers from exactly the same malady as so many pointed at McCaffery's teams in the past. A 10-11 seed may actually be better than an 8-9.Both men** (8th seed) and women (2 seed) will face Michigan in BTT.
** IF men can beat (most likely) Indiana.
Tough out for both. Men are a definite loss. I fear the women will see a much more potent Michigan offense and probably lose as well (I give them a 40% chance).
Women can lose and worse case is a 3 seed. Men absolutely must win 1 to stay 8/9 seed. 4 straight losses, 2 to non-tourney teams (Indy might be a play-in team) and they're definite 10 and possible play-in 11.
