Bash the Buckeyes Women's Basketball Game Thread

Yeah to have an 18-2 record in the Big before this game

And they have a serious sharpshooter
Yeah Cambridge is really good. What I saw from OSU was good athleticism but they just didn’t play well as a team on the offensive side of the ball. Too many of their guards just tried taking our guards 1on 1 and they keep losing. Our guards are quick and play good d 90% of the time

Hawk teamplay is perhaps as good as it gets

They are extremely well coached

Plus they have a lot of sharpshooters on the floor, and Hannah, Ada and now Journey around

Hawks looking good, Taylor McCabe out with a knee injury

Hawks leading Addie Deal getting playing and doing Well

Six points, she is rather skillful off the dribble
While a serious injury is never something to like, I am wondering if this is going to turn out to be Sydney Affolter, chapter 2. Adding her to the starting line-up two years ago was one of the catalysts in getting us back to the championship game. While we may not see such lofty moments this year, with Addie Deal ready to take on a bigger role, this may work in our favor. One can only hope.

I know we are still waiting to hear how bad McCabe's injury is, but the same thought crossed my mind.

Although the Molly Davis injury occurred later in the season and Affolter was already a candidate for 6th man of the year, and Affolter was a junior. But it is absolutely true Affloter flourished in the Big Ten and NCAA Tourneys and was a big reason Iowa won the Big Ten tourney and got to the NCAA NCG. Probably a sign Affolter should have been starting all along.

Starting Deal may eventually have the same payoff, but she is still learning as a freshman, so I am guessing she is going to alternate for a while between the good and the bad as she learns. I have a hunch Deal eventually would have been starting anyway this year but Jan probably would not had done it so soon if McCabe did not get hurt.

I get your point, but that team from a couple of years ago would have been better with Molly Davis available, and Syd doing all of her Syd things off the bench (she was already a huge part of the team before the Davis injury).

Likewise, this team would be much better with both McCabe and Deal available. But, this will definitely accelerate Deal's development. She seems to be settling in during B1G play.

Yes, somebody is going to have pick up extra minutes with McCabe out. I think ever since Feurerbach came back, the 3 guard positions were getting around these many minutes per game

Chit Chat Wright - 34 Minutes
Kylie Feuerebach - 34 Minutes
Taylor McCabe - 26 Minutes
Addie Deal - 15 Minutes
Stremlow - 10 minutes
Others- 1 minute

Total - 120 minutes

Assuming Deal is the new starter, I am guessing she might get around 25 minutes a game. If Addie is hot, she might even end up with 30+ minutes, which is what she got against Ohio St. But my guess how the minutes will be split up among the 3 guard positions is below

Chit Chat Wright - 35 Minutes
Kylie Feuerebach - 35 Minutes
Addie Deal - 25 Minutes
Stremlow - 20 minutes
Others- 5 minutes

Total - 120 minutes

I have a hunch that Jan will eventually start giving Journey Houston some minutes at guard, but Jan probably does not want to confuse her too much in her freshman year by making her play too many positions. Right now Houston seems to be working well as Hannah's backup at the 4 position. So I think the coaches will stick with that strategy.

Guessing the other minutes will be split between Malegni and Levin.

My only question is this. Will teams start preparing more for Deal with McCabe out?

That's why I would have almost preferred that Deal slip into the starting lineup in late February, right before the Big Ten Tourney. Just like Alfolter did in 2024. When it happens that late in the season, teams don't have enough time to adjust. Now teams in the tourney will have a full months worth of scouting reports on Deal in the starting lineup.
