Article I found on Andrew McKeever

Bob Hougue and Sharm Shuerman were the announcers. I believe the games were on the NBC affiliate.
That makes sense as I know Bob was the lead sportscaster on the local NBC channel out of Waterloo. I remember his signature comment phrase.............. "OH MY". I remember after he left KWWL (now I remember the station's call letters. Memory is funny how it works sometimes) I was traveling out West from Iowa and I caught him on the radio and sure enough came the old "OH MY" call.

I found everything in this to be pretty fascinating. I skipped to the part about him but if you're a nerdy numbers guy there's a lot these guys put together. Long story short they think that Andrew in Bens system is going to get the most out of him. His strengths that he's shown so far married together with the types of rim opportunities he's going to get off rolls to the hoop for us will be a match made in heaven.

I did get to one of the Utah Valley games and the players that transferred out of Utah Valley were actually pretty good. I live just three miles from the Utah Valley campus and about seven miles from BYU's campus. Were talking like over 70k students in a five mile range. Oh to be young and single again. The summer's are dry and HOT out here and the temperature's aren't the only things HOT!!! ;)

The only time we could watch the Hawks on tv back then was when they were playing in the Big Ten Game of the Week, (can’t recall which network that was on), which wasn’t very often outside of the Ralph Miller era.

I watched Sky in person with my grad student season ticket. Also had them for Ralph’s Six Pack. Never will forget those old wonderful days.

Call me crazy. Andrew will probably not start. His minutes may run around 20-25. Much will depend how we play, small? big? In between? We will use our bench a lot. Stamina for bigs is key. How will Andrew hold up. Remember, the 5 has to run the entire floor on every exchange.

Our new guard? I predict lots of minutes from the get go.
You are not crazy, but I would be surprised if he did not start. You pay 2-3 million for a guy that you think is the missing piece of the puzzle and you leave him on the bench? I mean, Al was assuredly our second highest player last year and he did not start. So, its possible. The job won't be handed to him, but Ben saw how the 6'8 guys, including Manyou could not hold up defensively and on the boards against the upper side of the conference. I see him grooming this kid to start and play 25 minutes in conference play.

The new guard will play. He is a plus defender and can handle the ball.

I thought about how Cam started about every game this season but was relatively quickly replaced. My guess is Cam starts, but Andrew comes in very soon. I think 25 minutes is a good prediction.

It could also be that Cam starts at the beginning of the season given his time in Ben's system and that flips after christmas. I would start McKeever and rotate thereafter if for no other reason to jump center!

I tend to think this year's two high price free agents will see more playing time than last year's two high price free agents (not including Stirtz), for the simple reason that McCollum and staff were likely doing research for months on who might be available and their potential fit. It was a rushed process last year - plus a smaller pool of players that would likely consider Iowa.

McCollum got the guys he targeted this year as fits for his program.

That said, it sounds like nobody fully understands his expectations on how to practice and play until they've experienced being part of the program. And there is zero playing time until a standard is consistently met.

Don't sleep on Jirak. If he turn's that 250 lbs. to 265 Ibs. of muscle and get's enough experience combined with that 6'11" height, then there ain't going to be to many people pushing him around under the basket (our basket or the opponent's basket).

The real question will be be able to retain these guys?

I'm looking for better footwork out of him, he looked pretty awkward up and down the court. but definitely agree !! Baby steps on big guys first couple of years

I don't think you're crazy I think you have his mins about right. That's what he did last yr. If he gets up to 30 that seems like a lot. I do think he'll start though. Only reason he might not is if he's just slow to grasp all the Xs and Os that Ben will be throwing at him. Otherwise his impact is just going to be too much to keep on the bench. I think they'll want him out there to help set the tone early.

Cam should adjust to that fine he was starting games but wasn't playing starter level mins anyway. I won't be shocked either way on it but I'd lean 70/30 that Andrew is starting.

Yeah Garza made his leap between his 2nd and 3rd yrs. I'm not looking for Jirak to have a big leap earlier then that either. Especially if he's going to be the 3rd center he's not going to get the same opportunities that Garza had at the same point.

It is going to be the 3rd collegiate season for McKeever though and that has me hopeful that we'll be getting a taste of seeing what his ceiling can be. Trick for big guys is always consistency though so we'll see

I remember watching Garza as a freshman and thought Fran had wasted a schollie. It usually takes a season or two for the big guys to get used to the speed and flow of the college game. I think we will have 3 guys that are at least serviceable at the 5 next season and we can throw bodies at teams and not worry about fouls. The only way this team is special is if McKeever is too good to take off the floor. If he lives up to his billing, this could be a tough team to beat. We shall see.

He took 18 3FG attempts last year. He only made 3 of them, but can that be a legitimate part of his game in the future? A 6' 11" guy who can shoot 3's is a great luxury.
