That some people on this board would like to see this starting lineup next year?

Cully PG
Gatens SG
May SF
Brommer PF
Coug's C

Just saying.

Just don't understand some of the fierce defending of these mediocre players. Look around the board. You will see people talking about how Gatens is going to have a great year. How Brommer will have the confidence necessary to succeed. How Coug's had the soft hands and big body Iowa needs in the middle. How May will be the player next year we thought he would be this year.

I mean it really is seriously delusional here sometimes.

I think the rational ones would really want Basabe, Cartwright and three new players - White, new big, new combo guard.

Gatens and may should NOT be starting at Iowa. Our legit big Ten starters are Cartwright and Basabe (Fran recruits)

Wait who feels Brommer under achieved this year? Coming into the season no one expected anything from him but help at practice... he has shown his worth for at least coming off the bench this year. We don't have a center for next season, so its going to be hard to find a starter for next season at the 5 at this late in the recruiting process.

I havn't heard Cougs name mentioned in maybe but a year.

I think its you that is delusional.

No, sorry, I don't think I've seen anyone say anything remotely close to that, although I'm sure you're just being snarky on purpose to score points of some kind. I think the general consensus is Basabe and Cartwright are Iowa's best two players this year, although I would say after them Gatens and Cole are probably the next in line in terms of consistent performance over the year. I can't really think of a fifth person who has been consistently good -- probably explains a lot about the season.

It's pretty clear that Iowa needs some better players, but I'm also pretty sure it would be counterproductive to throw its current players to the wolves. The Iowa program needs more consistency, not less.

Hmmmm... They're one extreme and you're the other extreme - as you continue to beat your drum... Don't suppose a happy medium can be found?

You forgot to mention that these same folks want McCaffrey to recruit Washpun, Sistrunk, (insert name of a dozen other D2 level high school kids) for the coming seasons. There is a huge difference between being a fan who has played the game (even recreationally male or female) and the casual fan who thinks diving on the floor for a loose ball makes one a D1 big ten athlete.

This is a critical crossroads for Iowa basketball IMO. McCaffrey HAS to show improvement next year or the tide will start to turn, apathy will return and the buzz will be gone. I have a lot of friends who just started watching Iowa b-ball again this year and they are already saying "the team is unwatchable they are so bad". These blowout losses where it looks like we should be wearing clown shoes not sneakers are bad for the fans, recruits, players, etc. McCaffrey took over a team that would not finish in the top of the valley, not to mention the big ten and he MUST get better talent in here asap and yes, I do mean OUT OF STATE TALENT.

I think fran doesn't want to run off Gatens so he sticks with him even when he is cold. Next year I don't think that will be the case. But when he is on he will get a lot of minutes.

Dude, look down the front page of the board. There was a Cougs thread not three or four from the top when I posted. Just a few days ago there was one. Every negative thread about Gatens pulls the supporters out, same with May.

Someone even defended Brommer on this thread. Brommer is a third Big Man off the bench on any decent team.

Just look around and you will see some of the delusional.

BTW: I was using hyperbole in the OP if you couldn't tell.

The ones who want this lineup are the same fools who were whining a year ago that Lick should be given more time at Iowa.

Or the guys pining away for Mr. Davis. Not to say he wasn't a successful coach
at Iowa, but can't we focus in the future and what this program needs to catch up with the rest of the conference?

Has anyone seen a more pathetic strawman argument than the one proposed by the OP? Yeah, a huge number of people are in favor of benching Cartwright and Basabe. Who has been asking for Cougill to start (Wait, Cougill's still on the team???)?

Failed troll failed.

Gatens is not the problem. He hasn't been shooting the ball very well lately, but he is still the best shooter on this team. He also plays pretty good defense.

I would compare Gatens to Novak or Douglas from Michigan. He's as good or better than those two, but he isn't surrounded by 3 other good players.

Iowa is in desperate need of an athletic 3 man that can score. May and Marble just aren't getting it done and we are really not getting anything out of that spot at all.

This I agree with.
If 2% of a 1000 anonymous posters make a statement like the OP suggests, that does not mean it is a concensus opinon,or even a fringe opinon.

And lumping everyone who is not Basabe and Cartwright together as if there is not a single decent ballplayer in there is also overkill.

We need an infusion of talent..no doubt, but lets not go overboard with the hyperbole.

Obviously, no one is happy with current results, and everyone knows we need a significant talent upgrade. But you have to understand that fans on this board have differing ways of enjoying Iowa sports. For some people, it's just a complete turn-off to see 18-22 year olds getting continuously trashed. Those fans are not delusional, they realize that improvement is needed, but they just don't have a desire to dwell on the negative.
