Well , players like Deal, Mallegni and Levin have already been signed. Does that mean everybody left is worse than Deal, Mallegni and Levin?

Hawks already replaced those 3 so I'm guessing there's got to be a player at least as good as Johnson. Guyton probably wishes by now she would've stayed at Iowa. Illinois brought in Divine Bourrage which is a 5 star guard.

My wife has been obsessing about how they are going to fill out the roster. I am sure there is no money for spots 9 - 12 in the rotation, but you still need those bodies for practice, injuries, foul trouble, etc. But how do you convince someone to ride the bench at Iowa when they could be getting 20+ min/game at a mid-major? It almost has to be someone who wouldn't play significant minutes at Iowa OR at a mid-major, and likes the idea of riding the bench here better than there.

Basically, a person who is more into academics than sports, who likes a particular academic program at Iowa, is generally local and more specifically a Hawkeye fan, and who is smart and a hard worker. You remember back in the day when we brought in Megan Considine mid-season because of a spate of injuries? She was already at the U of Iowa (sophomore), but she was not competing in any sport. She was an important member of the team over the next few years, though she was never part of the rotation. We need to find 4-5 people like that every season to fill out the bench.

I would suggest a reason someone might come to Iowa for the roles you state is that it would give them the opportunity to play at the highest level of college basketball, make a run in the B1G, and, hopefully, a deep run in the Big Dance.

Actually, Amari fits this description. She played in 2 NITs at BYU and Okie St didn't make the NCAAs this year, I'm pretty sure. So, this would give her a great chance of playing in the Dance in her last season. I read in her comments that she just wants to win and will do whatever to help that. I'm sure there are others that fit that mode and I'm guessing JJ and staff are looking for them, there are lots of ballers in the portal.

Yeah, but Whiting will be in the rotation, and she is getting paid. I am talking about filling out roster spots 9-12...that is a completely different situation. A player could still choose to take one of those spots for the potential tournament run or the great team culture. But they are giving up the opportunity for playing time at a mid-major or a potential payday (albeit small) at a lower tier school like Wisconsin.
