How can you vote against "America, love it or leave it!"?

If the FB doesn't miss his block, we beat NU going away. And probably @ OSU.

Stanzi all day

I think Stanzi gets downgraded in some people's minds because of the disappointing way his senior year ended. But much of that was outside of his control. Below is from a post I made years ago when discussion the "KF QBs always regress" idea:

The argument that makes no sense is that Stanzi regressed as a senior because the team underachieved.

That big statistical improvement is even masked somewhat. He had a QB rating of 170 through the first 8 games, but he dropped down to 120 over his last 5 games after losing his starting RB (A. Robinson) and both starting guards.

The biggest reason Stanzi is judged harshly for 2010 is because the defense failed to protect 4th quarter leads.

Imagine everything played out exactly the same that 2010 season, except...

  • Iowa did not give up the fake punt vs. Wisc OR stopped Wisc on the 4th and 5 they converted on their game-winning drive
  • Iowa did not give up 2 long TD drives to NW in the 4th quarter
  • Iowa did not allow a 4th and 10 conversion on a Terrell Pryor scramble vs. OSU
  • Iowa did not allow a go-ahead TD drive vs. MN in the 4th
Stanzi has the exact same stats (3004 yards, 64.1% completion %, 25 TD/6 int), and did not do a thing differently. But the defense came through, and now Iowa is 11-1. People would call that one of the greatest QB seasons in Iowa history.

NO ONE would be saying, "I know his stats are good and the team was 11-1, but my eyes are telling me he just was not as good as 2009 when he threw for 2417 yards with 56.3% completion and 17/15 TD/Int."

Loved him, but he is 4th. He was a turnover machine that season. How they won 11 games is just nuts. Then he had a mostly clean sheet his senior year and yet the record got a lot worse. His tenure was a roller coaster.

Stanzi gets downgraded by me because in my opinion he doesn’t have as good of skills when compared to my top which is Beatherd if healthy. He didn’t have the arm talent as CJ, he wasn’t as good a runner but was capable, and he was a little more mistake prone. I like Stanzi a lot and I also think he had a more talented team around him. If it wasn’t for his injury he could have been playing for a natty that year. Their careers are similar in the fact they had great success their junior year and senior year with high expectations under performed.

Crazy how even the voting is across those top 4 guys.

KF used to say he had football amnesia.
I called him the Hawkeye Alfred E. Neuman.

I've always thought it.

That damned NU injury/loss!

And let's not forget there was a SI jinx that year...

Excellent post.

2010 was a high-expectation/let down season.
But not because of Stanzi.

if they beat Wisconsin it would have been interesting to see how the team reacted. That Loss really imploded that team for whatever reason
Indeed.
I had my best seats ever at Kinnick that day.
Home side, 45 yard-line (to the south), 22 rows up.
Had a group of buddies there from my hometown. Was having a ton of fun....
...Then that bogus fake punt happens right in front of us. Blech.

It was 100% a coaching error. Everybody in the stands saw it coming. Nobody, apparently, on the sidelines, did.

That is funny coming from KF, who claims to value ball security above all else. I know he meant it as a compliment, but maybe remembering the dumb throw into triple coverage might stop you from doing it again! :)

I have to go with CJ. I was with the I Club on the bus tour to Nebbie where we completed a 12-0 BT run. The bus ride home was electric. This was a first and only so far. Watched one of the best football games ever for me, even though MSU lucked out in the end. I swear to this day that the Rose Bowl meant nothing to this team. They left it all in the BT, which is where it all belonged!
