As a heads up, I am going to treat our Cash position as a safety. You could argue that it is a slot-CB, or even that it is a linebacker (it is a combination of all 3). But, you will see those Cash players showing up with the safeties.

edit: I added Micah Hyde into the lists, I was originally thinking he played more S at Iowa (thanks @guffus )

Onto the corners...

Jim Thorpe winners: Desmond King (2015)

Jack Tatum winners:

Desmond King (2015)
Josh Jackson (2017)

All-American (1st team unless otherwise indicated):

Desmond King (2015, unanimous)
Josh Jackson (2017, unanimous)
Cooper DeJean (2023, unanimous)

B1G DB of the year:

Micah Hyde (2012)
Desmond King (2015)
Josh Jackson (2017)
Riley Moss (2021)
Cooper DeJean (2023)

All-B1G first team:

As impressive as all of the B1G DBs of the year are, I am equally impressed by how many late-bloomers we have had who really shown as senior corners. Guys like Lowery, Mabin, Ojemudia, TJ Hall this past year. These are guys that took lumps early, but developed into guys worthy of All-B1G consideration and potentially set themselves up for an NFL career.

Cooper and Dez if I'm picking for my team.

Josh Jackson caught lightening in a bottle, but it was more anomaly than reality.
This is exactly what I was thinking. But I am still debating between Desmand King, Cooper DeJean and Micah Hyde.

Micah Hyde is one of the those hybrid players that could have easily played 5 different positions, including QB, WR, CB and safety. At Iowa he rotated between CB and safety but started all but 2 of his games at CB, winning Big Ten DB of the year in 2012. In the NFL he was drafted as a CB but played most his NFL career at safety.

Trying to decide between Hyde, King and DeJean is torture. But in the end, I am going with 2 of my favorite players

Cooper DeJean
Micah Hyde

By the way, I believe there should a totally separate category for the CASH position when the time comes.

I totally blew that...I knew he played both at Iowa, but I thought he played more S than CB. I will edit the original post to correct that...thanks!

I think King was the best shutdown corner we have had. He should have been 2x All-American, but apparently none of the voters watched him play as a senior and just assumed if his INTs went down he didn't play as well. No one dared to target his guy when he was a senior.

I think DeJean was our most talented corner, and he will likely have the most decorated NFL career. But I think Hyde and Moss are both right there in terms of their contributions as college CBs. Hyde got 4 years at Iowa, and Moss got 5, so necessarily their contributions will seem amplified.

I would go Coop and King.

There is an argument Hyde could be listed as a safety. He probably would have stayed at safety his junior year if the original CB's starting that year had worked out

Cooper Dejean and Desmond King. Both completely shut down one side of the field. Riley Moss with a runner-up award.

Based on college careers I'd go with Cooper and King, although Coop leaving a year early kept him closer with Hyde.
