All Big Ten selections

Some thoughts.

Interesting that 1st team and 2nd teams now have 10 players each while the 3rd team still has 5 players. Is that something that changed when the Big Ten expanded to 18 teams?

Interesting that Addie Deal made the all freshman team while Journey Houston did not. I know that Addie got a couple freshman of the week awards while I dont think Journey ever got one. Maybe that makes a difference. But Addie must have impressed enough Big Ten coaches to get noticed.

Nice that Kylie gets recognized for doing a lot of things that dont always show up on the stat sheet.

Journey did more than enough to be on that freshman team.
I'm pretty tired of Lauren Betts getting all these awards just because she's tall. Glad she'll be moving on.
UCLA coach gets coach of year. That must of been hard to coach 7 WNBA players.

The hard part is recruiting the 7 WNBA players to your team in the first place, but yeah, picking the UCLA coach was a little uninspired. I would have picked the Minnesota coach. They were picked to finish something like in 13th place. Of course Iowa was not picked in the top 5 pre-season either.

Speaking of pre-season picks, I see that Stuelke was picked for the pre-season all Big Ten first team back in October. So I think, as it worked out, Ava kinda took Hannah's spot.

I thought the same thing about Deal, Houston has had more of an impact for the team this season.

I just want to say congrats to Ava Heiden for her first team all Big Ten selection. You can tell she has worked really hard on improving her game and has shown remarkable progress from where she was 13 months ago. It makes you wonder what her ceiling is in future years. Could she possibly be the Big Ten MVP next year? That's hard to predict. Probably will depend somewhat on Layla Hays and McKenna Wolizko's (sp?) development to help out Ava in the post.

There are plenty of minutes to be replaced. Feuerbach, McCabe, an Stulke played a lot of minutes. Journey filled in well for Hannah, but she isn't a four. Magellna (sp) could help as well as the freshman Wolicka recruit (sp). I'm not sure where E Rodriquez is at. Wright, Stremlow, Houston, and Deal have to play the defense level of Feuerbach.

Levin should have a role tool, maybe as a defensive stopper like Feuerbach.

Because Mallegni is listed as a guard, I guess I had forgotten, or maybe I just never knew, that Teagan is 6'1" tall. So she is tall enough to play forward but looks kinda skinny to play under the basket.

I'm giving Close credit. UCLA was picked to win conf. Had a target on their back. When challenged, met that challenge. Went undefeated in league. A brutal coast-to-coast travel schedule playing all days of the week. 1 loss total. Betts "just tall" gives credence to Close coaching. 7 W players also credits Close -- recruiting. I hear ya. Same said about Phil Jackson. For the record I agree about Betts --- just tall. She wasn't near top rebounder or PPG. Makes nothing but layups. Big 12 PoY Miles gets nod over Big 12 lay-up Queen Crooks. For me Betts is Cardoso 2.0 and gets to W for being 6-7 like 7-0 gets you in NBA. So I ask: What Big 10 coach more deserving? Don't say Jan. She committed a Cardinal Sin --- lost a home game. I say she overachieved. Team picked 6th or 8th. I picked them Top 4. Finished 2nd with some very hurtful injuries (pun intended). Most teams do have some injuries. Jan did a marvelous job. On Iowa!
