Addie Deal transfer news

There are probably coaches out there that are promising Addie she will start and play 30 minutes a game if she transfers to their team.

The funny thing is she had stayed, she had a great opportunity to be a starter at Iowa and play 30 minutes a game.
Agents too... Her agent seems to be neck deep in this as well. I'm sure he's promising her that a bunch of schools are lined up in a bidding war for her services promising more PT then she can handle.

The opportunity woulda been there had she stayed for sure. But based on what she showed would she have done very well with it?... Iowa had games to try and win. Stremlow had her own struggles but she was still objectively the better player with more upside than Addie. Kylie was a one dimensional player pretty much but that role was more valuable then Addies erratic play.

Ironically I thought Levin shoulda gotten more time but she's leaving now too. So I'm not sure what to think of that.

At first when McCabe went down I thought it was going to be good for Iowa because at the time Deal was playing well off the bench. But she never made any progress and she took a couple steps backwards in terms of development.

Very disappointing that she entered the transfer portal instead of staying, developing, and putting herself in better position to succeed. Jensen gave her more than enough chances to take over McCabe's role and Deal wasn't ready for it. She might have 5 star talent but she doesn't have a 5 star head.

There's a lot going on here. Addie's parents held Addie back a year in school so she'd grow her basketball skills. I'm a firm believer her parents are making this decision for her. Kind of feel bad for Addie. I was so in hopes her sophomore year would be a breakout season for her. Addie thanks for being a Hawkeye and wish nothing but the best for you.

Yeah, I didn’t know she was already 21 years old until today. The clock seems to be ticking on her so the clean break was the best for both sides on this one.

I mean her parents relocated to North Liberty to be closer. Probably not a great sign as it relates to parental involvement.

Not really sure the clean break is necessarily the best for the college kid...particularly if the only thing she (or her parents?) were unhappy about was playing time during a freshman year that included being an important role player on a second place Big Ten team. Maybe there is more to it, but that's what seems to be emerging thus far...

It has been reported that she is leaving because she (and her parents) thought she deserved more playing time.

Hard to see that from my vantage point. She was given lots of opportunities, and didn't often do much to show she warranted more minutes at this stage. (Or at times, even justify the minutes she did receive).

I'm guessing there was a convo after the season, and the coaching staff said they anticipated Chit Chat, Ava and Stremlow would likely be starting. And Houston did A, B and C really well this season, and it was going to be hard to keep her off the court.

But that they anticipated Deal, Woliczko, and likely a portal addition would all compete heavily for minutes at the two and three.

Seems like there are a ton of minutes up for grabs, but somehow that wasn't enough of an assurance for Addie, Ma or Pa?
If this is truly the main reason - I've gone from not caring so much about her leaving and wishing her success wherever she lands to being glad she's gone.

Her performance was 2 stars short of her rating and it wasn't because she lacked opportunities.

Really? Even more reason to bid adieu! As said, felt like she was already near her ceiling based on what I saw and it makes sense given her age / experience ... Basically a Junior, yet she often struggled like she was in junior high.

Now, I look forward to Iowa women continuing to make the NCAA and hope they meet up and pummel her new team in an epic 3 vs 14 beat down.

Great analysis. Although I think Houston started when Stuelke was out hurt.

Also I have to admit Deal's numbers don't look as bad as I thought they were, but I am not sure if they capture how just how bad Addie played in Feb and March.
Deal started during the west coast trip.

In every sport, at every level, the combination of high ratings and hyper-involved parents rarely translates into success and happiness. I've seen it personally several times. These types of parents carry an over-inflated unrealistic view of their child, which doesn't allow for them to have a normal level of objectivity.

It's cognitive dissonance. When reality doesn't align with expectations, the ego is protected by assigning responsibilty to everyone associated with the program - the coaches, the therapists and even the dietary staff.

If that is indeed the case here, I feel sorry for her.

So her parents moved to Iowa. Son at Grinnell and daughter at Iowa. I'm not a parent so not going to comment on this. BUT, this makes my belief of "Why?" off base. For me it was this simple: Addie recruited by Lisa for a run 'n gun guard driven offense. Lisa gives the keys to Jan and her post first, guard shot 2nd. Not to mention the D required which I don't see as Addie's long suit.

This thought crossed my mind as well. I was watching highlights from Iowa's run to the NCAA NCG with Caitlin Clark and Iowa's style looked like so much fun. Not just the 3-point shots by Caitlin from the logo, but the fast pace and the full court passes as well.

Now Iowa's games down the stretch this season were wins, but were not really the fun games that the fans have liked in the past. And I am guessing was not a style that Addie Deal liked either
