Too bad if true, but I wouldn't be totally shocked. I think she would be the first person to admit that she didn't have the immediate impact she expected as a 5-star recruit. That can be a bad situation if you are a long way from home already.
We'll see. There were fans all year calling for her to start every time she had a good game, only for her to disappear again. Not every 5-star recruit become a star player. It doesn't matter how she played. It's a bad look for a coaching staff and the program when a 5 star leaves after year 1.
I said in another thread 3-5 players could leave and I'm not surprised one bit that Addie Deal is one of them. She regressed each week. That's at least partly on coaching IMO.
No doubt she will excel where ever she ends up.
It's an unusual situation for Iowa to have a player of that caliber leave after one year. Supposedly Deal said it was because of a lack of consistent playing time. If so, just....WOW.
She played in 34 games, was handed a starting role when McCabe went down, and was given every chance in the world to perform at an even average level. I think most of us wondered why she was getting as many minutes as she was, given her play. I just figured it was because Jensen wanted her to get experience for next season, and hoped she could get her confidence up to have more games like the 2 good games she had. But after awhile, her starts were visibly hurting the team, and no good coach can act like they don't see what everyone in the world sees. Stremlow stepped in and played well -- far better than Deal at that time. What's a coach supposed to do?
She shouldn't have been homesick -- her parents moved to Iowa, for goodness sake.
She'll probably will become a great player over time -- which she likely would have done at Iowa too.
Maybe after being around Jensen she just didn't feel Jensen was a good enough coach.
Who knows...

I have to disagree, she just didn't have much impact when she had opportunities. She could still develop into a great player but she wasn't this season.Don't blame her
She was ignored by JJ
She certainly has a lot of potential
Who knows maybe she will end up at UCLA
I think your first sentence is a concern. As I'm not the biggest J.J. fan and have made that no secret, I can see a little bit why Jennica Lewis and Addison Bjorn chose different schools to attend.Any concern this impacts Woliczko? Didn't she reference Addie a bit in her committment ... As Cali girls, they can "relate"?
Either way, we'll find out over the next 3 seasons if we should be upset or meh. Personally, I'm very meh about it. Strongly believe she was prolly near her ceiling already and, except for making her shots, really didn't see where she would improve to the point of meeting that "star" expectation / impact.
I'm much happier Journey and Hays are sticking. Journey's grit and production made key contributions this year and will only increase. Hays ... ya can't coach her size and, in women's game, it's such a factor. Jan's specialty is coaching up bigs and she will be noticeably better with an off-season of focusing on nutrition and conditioning.
Of the freshman Journey Houston made the most of her time on the floor. She was asked to fill Stulke's position at 5'-11' as well. Houston played 532 minutes , made 75 of 150 shots taken, made 4 of ll 3 pointers, made 31 of 43 free throws, 185 points, 172 rebounds, 39 assists and 27 turnovers. Houston made no starts.
Deal played 528 minutes, made 67 of 170 attempts, 17 of 25 free throws, made 22 of 74 3 pt attempts, 173 total points, had 42 rebounds, 56 assists, and 59 turnovers.
Basketball is about maximizing the time you are on the floor. Journey Houston's numbers are just better. Deal played tentative running the set offense and needed to be more aggressive attacking the basket. Too often she stopped for mid range shots rather than trying to lay it up.
Seems like a fair analysis to me. Nobody should be surprised by this. Cali kid all the hype etc. Bottom line is she got chances. Multiple chances especially when McCabe got hurt she was put in the starting lineup for a few games. But she just wasn't ready. I don't blame her for that she's a true freshman.Deal's freshman year at Iowa was kinda like Aliah Guyton's freshman year last year at Iowa. It started out ok, but just kinda fizzled down the stretch.
Guyton ended up transferring to Illinois, got a few starts her sophomore year, but mostly came off the bench. Averaging 20 minutes and 6 points a game. My point is Guyton is a decent player but will never be a superstar. Addie Deal probably has a higher ceiling than Guyton and will probably be a starter where ever she goes, but I am not so sure she will THE star of the team. Maybe more of a Kate Martin type role.
