How painful was that to watch? We just have no one who can shoot the ball: treys, jumpers, FTs, even the occasional lay-in. You leave a lot of points on the floor when you don't have scorers.

Everyone seems to be focused on the offensive woes this season and while I won't disagree that the Hawks had another tough night at that end of the floor, the success next season will be equally dependent on improved perimeter defense and smarter help defense as they cannot expect to improve Win/Loss Record if they continue to give up easy drives to the hole for the layup or dump pass for a dunk or continually fail to shut down the hot-hand of the opposing team.

It will get better with time. Fran would probably have more success even with a MVC team than with what he was left with.

I would argue that Iowa's best offense comes on a defensive turnover for an uncontested dunk or layup as everything else seemed extremely difficult to make tonight (FTs, Open Treys, mid-range jumpers)

Tweeterhawk and friends, you are correct. Iowa has NO shooters. In basketball, if you can't score, you can play defense all you want, but it ain't gonna get it done. Recruiting shooters is the answer. I can't see the potential to score in Marble or anyone else beyond the obvious: Cartwright and Basabe (inside), and Cartwright is not a great jump shooter. As well as Cartwright has played -- and I like the kid -- he can't take over a game offensively like a Ronnie Lester, a Kenny Arnold, a BJ Armstrong, a Steve Carfino, etc. This isn't soccer. If you can't score you've had it. Tonight provides the latest body of evidence.
