PG) Cartwright returning bigten assist leader. Add Cully, technically returning two starting point guards. I think we can expect increase in assist per game to 16 up from 13.8. This will get us up toward league lead. Marble should not have to run point to often. Should also see a decrease of 1-1.5 TO/game from PG position. Second year of offense in place will also decrease TO.

SG) Gatens has taken a lot of flack for lack of shot when we r behind. Matt is best when we have a lead, more relaxed, and takes smarter shots. Although he may lack that clutch shot, he is deadly when we have a lead. I think that will become more apparent next year, as he will transition to possibly even the 3rd scoring option. Throw in Cully at the 2 with him. Cully proved he can be a scorer. Finishes much better than Matt around the rim. I see maybe another half a steal a game with a deeper rotation and fresh legs on defense. Definately better ball handling tandem with Cartwright and Payne.

SF) Well I hope to see the most improvement from this position. I was hoping to see Eric keep his legs through the entire big ten season this year. It just didn't happen. Eric continues to flourish against less athletic teams. He just flat out has confidence issues against more athletic players. Hopefully Eric as a role player at 15-18 min/game to keep his legs for entire season. I am hoping to see Devyn grow into this position. He can get to the hoop. His rebounding improved as season went on. THey are saying another inch out of him. He will be very tough to guard. I think he is the best defensive option at the 3 we have. He is so long. Hopefully Aaron White is ready to move in and be a threat immediately also. If the three spot can get us 15/5 we are going to have a very good team. Devyn also much better handling the ball than Eric. Devyn's turnovers will be way down next year with Cully back and a another years experience.

PF) BASABE

C) Well the team should be better suited to score next year with better consictency. We need Brommer and Archie to provide good minutes on the defensive end. I think Andrew can be a 8 and 6 guy for us. Both of them have some talent. They need to stay out of foul trouble. Although, I think Andrew gets more ticky tack fouls than anyone in the league. Hopefully he gets some Sr respect on defensive end next year. I am still sticking to my hopes that Brennan is back. More skilled than both options at center for next year. Teams will have to watch him from the arc on the fast break. That will open more options offensively.

I think Zach can play any position you ask him too. He will also be improved. Adds a lot of flexibility.

What did you mean about Marble, "THey are saying another inch out of him. " Did he grow another inch?? Also, anyone know about Stokes' growth? He might not be done, considering he grew 5 inches in the previous year to coming to Iowa!

This team will continue to grow. The potential growth, increase in experience and development from coach's first year to his second is going to be quite exciting to say the least!

Add the recruits, both current signees and the spring signees and our depth will be a thing of beauty.

I think the big thing is just player development. I'd love to see Basabe get a consistent 15 ft. jump shot and sure up his handles a little. Marble just needs to shoot 1000 jumpers a day. He has to find his jump shot, as that will open up his dribble game. I think May needs to keep working on his shot as well. He's never going to be a dribble-drive guy and expecting him to develop that is pointless. He's athletic, a good defender, a good rebounded. If he can be a knock-down spot-up shooter he's an asset. There are not many spot-up shooter that also can be plus defenders and rebounder.

How do you get to this level in your playing career and not make close to seven of 10 shots standing unguarded 15 feet away (or in Archie's case, not even hit the rim)?

Yes, grow another inch. I am hearing he is expected to be 6' 8" by start of next season. His shot will come. He is a late developer. Good for us I think.

That photo on the front page might be a bit misleading, but I swear that Devyn is less than an inch shorter than Melsahn already. I would not be surprised if Devyn topped out over 6'7'', or is close to that already. The bad news is that as long as he keeps growing,it might be hard for him to put on much muscle mass, which he needs. I think he needs to be put on the same workout regimen as Stokes, who seems to be a similar body type....double lifting sessions. But no doubt, Devyn has to lock himself in the gym and shoot jumpers all summer long. He has a high ceiling, just wish he had redshirted this year,or played prep ball so that his body and age was the same as most frosh who are 19,while he is still 18,and his body reflects that. The experience of actually playing is hugely useful, but I do not think his body will really be mature til he is a senior....oh well.

Melsahn needs to get stronger, and more agile with the ball, and extend his range out to 17 ft....and just keep getting better on the little things, like passing out of the post and doubleteams.

Matt just needs to finetune his overall game, and shoot a lot.
Eric -get healthy and work on his dribble game. Bobby Hansen was saying the other day how both Matt and Eric need to endlessly drill on using their dribble to get separation, with jab steps, one dribble pullup, crossover pullup..ect...Hansen said when he was with the Bulls,he would see MJ practicing with those drills for hours...to perfect his pullup game.

Brommer has to work on his whole game, his body is there, but his game needs much refinement.
Zach needs to work on his body like the other frosh, get stronger, leaner, quicker, and then shoot, shoot, shoot.

I am excited for next year, but am tempered by the knowledge that the Big Ten does have a great crew of coaches, and they are out there every day recruiting, and working their own rosters...I am a huge Fran fan, tho,so at least we are not overmatched in that category anymore.

Fran needs to add two more top talents this spring, and then get that 2012 class committed,so he can then concentrate on Pete Jok for 2013...a breakthru type recruit for Iowa.

You are right with the things that the different players need to work on, but I just think that it might be asking too much. Jordan worked on that ability because it worked with a strength. For May, I just don't see him developing the dribbling skills to really develop the penetration skills to make that pullup effective.

His best bet would be to work to develop a Dan Majerle like game predicated on spot up shooting, releasing on the break, and posting up smaller guards. Gatens needs to work on perfecting that 12-15 foot shot, either as a pull up or a runner. I agree on your assessment of McCabe. He has shown the ability to be a bit of a wily scorer. Just needs to work on developing his physical abilities.

Marble is a mystery. Really would be nice if he could develop into a true 3 at about 6'8". But I think you are correct in identifying that he might not really develop completely from a physical standpoint until perhaps his senior year.

+1

Every player on the team needs to shoot several hundred free throws a day ALL summer long! Make our frees throws, and we win 5 more games this past season.
