1st1 coach fired prediction

Two things can be true at once. Fleck can run a solid and clean program that he and Gophers fan can be genuinely proud and pleased with; and he can also be an assclown. I mean, we just fired a basketball coach that fit that same description.

When you are not an overly talented actual football coach, like KF, you gotta bring something to the table. Fleck brings Lasso/Meme energy. It plays for some.

This is pretty true.
I'd probably really like him if I went there.

But then again, I really don't like the quarterzip over the dress shirt with a tie.
Just...don't do the tie.
Or...do the tie. And wear a sportcoat. With the school logo on the breast and a school colors hanky in the pocket? Hell, at that point, go with a cravat and beret printed to look like a team helmet.

Even better....go full on. Tie, jacket, and knickerbockers. I totally wanna see knickerbockers make a comeback. In my mind, I think they go really well with college football.

Wisconsin has one of the more favorable schedules in the B1G. Fickell could save himself (for now) with a bowl game. All he needs is wins over 6 of these

Western Ill
Eastern Michigan
Mich St
Rutgers
Maryland
Purdue
Minnesota (which they get at home)

That said, if they get beaten badly on National TV by Notre Dame at Lambeau his seat will get hotter early.

I think they will get blasted by Notre Dame. But I could see him getting sort of a pass on that game too. No one expects it to be close. If they do keep it close it could work in his favor.

Anybody follow that "JT The Iowa Investigator" on the TikToks or the Twitters?
I think he's pretty good. He shows a lot of stuff in Iowa. And presents it very as-is. Never overhypes something. Something that is hypeworthy....or even something most would find lame....either way. Just as-is. Kinda refreshing. Feels genuine.

He just released a vid from the rainy Fair. He's walking along and says "So, there's a lot of talk about which state has the best state fair and yes Minnesota has a successful fair. But, I'll show you one thing the Iowa State Fair has that Minnesota doesn't, and never will have...."

And the video speeds up as he walks into the Varied Industries Building and up to the University of Iowa booth and then slows down as the camera pans over to a table holding Floyd aloft.

It gave me a warm feeling in my tummy.

I saw that. Good stuff. And yes, that dude is funny and shows up on my FB feed now and then.

The trouble is that pretty much every other game is a loss, so its a tight window.

Domers will boatrace them, and they will also lose badly at PSU, Iowa, and UCLA. They get USC at home, but USC is going to be way more talented than them.

I have posted elsewhere that I believe the winner of MSU/Wisky game gets to a bowl and the other doesn't.

Could be. They'll both need that head-to-head. I think Mich St has a tougher schedule. (roughly listed in order of difficulty).

At our age, maybe. Kids call it Boomerbook and don't use it. I hardly ever post anything on FB. Its nice to wish people happy bdays and keep up with people you know that are not in your tight orbit. Mainly I enjoy scrolling reels. My algorythm is Iowa sports, clips of pheasant hunting with pointers, sci-fi movies and shows, comedy clips, all things Gen X, and hot women giving life advice. The 30 seconds at a time clips scratch my ADHD just about right.

TikTok is superior.
It will glom on to what you like and deliver exactly that.
Be it banal stuff like influencers. Or more interesting like music. Or things you didn't know interested you like aviation. Or ceramics.
Or the oddly specific category of women in thongs doing yoga.
Who knew that was my jam? I learn something new about myself every time I open up that app.

Fleck is a goof but he’s not really a hateable goof. The schtick where he sprints on the field every time there’s an injury is corny, but I think the guy is genuinely concerned for that player. That attitude rubs off on your team and staff.

But I don’t think he’s as smart as Ferentz or Pitzgerald or Lanning or Day or Cigaretti. His ceiling is innately lower and your attitude will only take you so far in P2 football. You have to have the machine that can win the race too.

I generally agree with all that.

I guess my overall point is that Nebraska would kill for what Fleck has done at Minnesota. He's had a winning Big Ten record 5 of the last 7 years, including a season with 11 wins overall, two with 9 wins and two with 8 wins. That's really hard to do. When was the last time Nebraska had a winning Big Ten record?

The schtick makes him an easy target, but the players must think it is somewhat authentic or at least they don't tune him out because of it.

What he has accomplished at Minnesota the past 7 years or so is probably the realistic ceiling for Nebraska football. And that's based on recruiting tough kids, building up both lines, and playing smart, physical football.

All we tend to see is the sizzle, but there is some decent steak there with Fleck. That's what Nebraska should be looking for at this point.

There are plenty of his players that find his schtick motivating. He drives them to be better and challenge themselves. His style is a little over-the-top but I think it comes from the right place and invokes the right messages. Minnesota has one of the best graduation rates in the country. That's no accident.
 
Anybody remember when Minnesota was sinnning football natties, back in the 50s I think, It was before my time.

I worked with a guy whose dad was on those Minny teams, he grew up in that tailwind, played HS ball himself. His son played one year of HS football and, to his dad's disappointment, football wasn't for him.

I remember when I was a student, the Gophers led the all-time series with us by like 30 games, now it's fairly even I think.
