10 most despised college football teams

I think it all comes down to ego. And for ego, Michigan is the worst.

When you attend a game against Michigan, there's a tangible "we're better than you" quality to their fanbase. Not only do they think they're the best (in every sense), they think that there would be no college football without them. It's a clear combination of football and academic prestige. It's why beating them is so fun and satisfying.

And then you realize that very few of them actually even went to Michigan. Really werid and annoying
This is a perfect description of Notre Dame. The Domers also have their own TV network. Thus, I hate them more. But, its close.

I wonder if they did a survey the other way---most liked team---if Iowa would crack the Top 10 list. I think most people have a solid opinion of KF, see Iowa as a successful program, see a lot of guys making it into the league, but not really a big threat to their team personally (unless you are Nebbie, Minny, Wisky). Iowa fans have a good reputation for the most part. The scandals that have come down over the years have been dwelled upon by our fan base, but probably most fans don't remember Rhabdo or a $10 bet, or even know who Doyle is. I think we would have a shot.

From the bowl games and away games I have been to I can say that most people I’ve talked to say they loved the Iowa fans. Most friendly, spend lots at the bars and restaurants, tip well. I think some bartender or waitress wrote a post somewhere praising the Iowa fans that visited the last bowl. Said out of every school that’s came they were treated best and hope we come back.

Probably in Tampa. We go there every year.

Every fan base has its jerks, but I have always felt that fans in Kinnick and Carver treat opponent's fans reasonably well, and I have not witnessed a lot of issues in the road games I have attended.

I sat with a bunch of Michigan fans at the last title game in Indy, and they were all pretty nice, but also spoke very highly of KF and Iowa's program. Of course, they were kicking our ass pretty good. In general, I think Iowa's program is viewed positively for the most part.

A visitor in any stadium is going to get the business. What makes them among the "most despised"?
It's probably familiarity. For example, would you put Nebraska in the "most despised" category? I know a lot of us would, but most of the country could care less about Nebby. Most from outside the very local midwest probably feel that Nebby is friendly and wonderful :) I imagine a lot of the country feels that Iowa State is a wonderful, feel good story as well.

USC has a massive history and they are still pretty good. All of the west coast teams despise USC. They are a private school with multiple national championships, and they act like it. I guess you'd just have to experience them for a few years. It's hard to describe people who are even too cool for LA to someone who isn't familiar.

I will give you one example. The band plays the "trojan" song throughout the game. No big deal, right? Except that they are on risers and mic'd up, so the volume is massive throughout the game and they play during huddles, etc. Just a small taste of what it's like...

I would imagine that Notre Dame is a pretty good parallel to USC.

For a variety of reasons, Michigan State keeps creeping higher and higher on my list.

1. Turning a blind eye to a pedophile for years, then trying to minimize what he did.
2. Tom Izzo, his antics and his pass with the refs.
3. Multiple coaches over the years with no moral compass, including Mel Tucker, Dantonio and Izzo, both of which were found to be fostering and/or covering up assault allegations by football and basketball player.
4. Possibly the most abrasive and unlikable fan base in the B1G.

I tend to agree. They really swept some awful stuff under the rug. Your #3 (coaches) also resonates.

Having said that, Michigan is trying to make up some ground on them lately.

No exaggeration, I'd easily tolerate ND fans over MSU fans. Most ND fans I know are elitists to a certain degree, some extremely wealthy, but almost all of them are civil and nice. MSU fans for whatever reason are frequently verbally abusive and literally unhinged.
