    Signing Off HN

This will be officially my last post at Hawkeye Nation. It’s been a pleasure posting with all of you and discussing hawkeye sports. I can’t support this website any further. This has nothing to do with what side of the spectrum you fall on, whether you want everyone on the coaching staffs head...

    Weight Gains

Iowa’s roster got updated on the website and as usual there were a few good weight gains. -Logan Lee 270 (was 251) -Dane Belton 200 (was 190) -Tyler Goodson 200 (was 190) -Karchinski 274 (was 253, I believe he’s working at DT so that makes sense) -Yahweh Jeudy 225 (was 201) -Desmond...

    Which Freshman Redshirt?

This has been discussed a good amount already, and I’ll admit I stole the idea from TOS, but I wanted to put it to a poll to see what people were thinking.

Potential Grad Transfer - NIU DT Jack Heflin

Just entered the portal. Apparently grew up an Iowa fan in a family full of Hawkeyes. Coach Bell started following on Twitter. He’s listed at 6’4/319 and Pro Football Focus has him has an Honorable Mention All American last year. He was 2nd Team All MAC. I’m not entirely sure what our...

2020 Recruiting Class - Ratings Bump

Interesting note. 247 just updated their ranking and Ulis, Perkins, and the Murray’s (as noted in another thread), all received ranking bumps. If you look at Iowa’s all time commits Ulis is now 11th (right behind Garza), and Perkins/Murray’s round out the top 25 at 23, 24, and 25. It’s looking...

    Garza with an extended offseason

Is this even fair to the competition? It looks like Garza is back home with his dad already doing multiple training sessions a day. Is he set to make another big jump next year?

    DJ Carton - To Iowa?

Okay we are in crazy times so let’s go with a crazy theory. Is it possible that DJ Carton transfers home to Iowa? On TOS they are discussing this as some around OSU think there is a chance he enters the portal. Iowa seems like a long shot given our scholarship situation and amount of guards...

    Patrick McCaffery - Workout Video

Here is a recent video of Patrick working on his skills with an instructor. https://www.instagram.com/tv/B9sFwEfHJ-7/?igshid=mot97rjqyswp Hope he’s back stronger than ever next year!

    Minnesota is hot

Currently 11-21 on 3s today against NW. 18-35 on 3s in their prior game against Nebraska scoring 107 points. I know those aren’t great teams but confidence is a pretty funny thing when it comes to shooting the basketball (ask Joe W). Scary game tomorrow IMO.

    Wisconsin’s B1G Schedule

Wisconsin will be playing for a share of the B1G title Saturday at Indiana. I looked up their B1G schedule along with the current conference standings. Single plays (conference rank) -Maryland (T-1) -Illinois (4) -Iowa (T-5) -Penn State (T-5) -Michigan (9) -NW (14) Double plays: -MSU (T-1)...

    Keep the Starting 5

I think the expectation is for CJ to return for Saturday’s game. My thought is we should keep the same starting group we’ve had the last three games. This group has played well, 8-0 start at Minny, monster start of game against OSU, and really good start at MSU. CJ gives you a little pop off...

    Rotation without CJ

Joe T - 28 Wieskamp - 34 Cmac - 32 Kriener - 24 Garza - 34 Evelyn - 22 Pemsl - 18 Till - 8 I think you put Kriener in the starting lineup. That way you still have one guard coming off the bench. Fran is going to have to trust Joe Toussaint more and let him play through some bad plays. We are...

How important is a BTT double bye?

I made a comment in another thread about this but thought it deserved its own thread. How important do people think getting a double bye really is? Me personally I think it’s completely overblown with the amount of discussion it gets on here. To me being a 3-6 seed isn’t really all that...

    Toussaint / Fredrick Backcourt

How exciting is it going to be watching these two for the next 3+ years. Crazy to think these guys are both freshman. They compliment each other very well and seem to already have good chemistry. Both pretty good defenders already. Joe T super quick can get in the lane at will and strong...

    Remaining Road Schedule

Taking a look at the remaining road schedule it’s going to be pretty tough run. So far this year we’ve played pretty well on the road and been in every game. What would be reasonable for this stretch of games? 1-5? 2-4? @Maryland @Purdue @Indiana @Minnesota @Michigan State @Illinois

The Season Died at the Palestra

A season which showed so much promise ended in one of the most historic gyms in college basketball. Many folks said they were proud of Iowa’s effort in a game Iowa gave away. Wins come at such a premium in this league and that one is going to end up costing us big time. The cumulative effect of...

    Niemann to MLB?

This is something I thought about even before the start of last season. Anyway given the fact that we are employing a decent amount of the 4-2-5 wouldn’t it make sense to work Niemann inside where he would be a full time player? He’s got a ton of experience and as far as I can tell has enough...

    2020 offense vs. 2019 offense

What are everyone’s expectations for the offense next year compared to what we saw this year? Personally I expect better offensive production, okay that’s not exactly a high bar, but potentially much better offensive production. I say this because of all the playmakers we return. Goodson with...

Advanced Stats - Through 10 games

I thought at the 10 game mark it might be interesting to break down some advanced stats. These statistics are never perfect, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t useful either. (I only included players in our regular rotation) PER (Player efficiency ratio) 1. Garza 34.2 (that’s MVP level) 2...
