so, olaseni STILL not starting over woodbury . yeah, I went there again

You're right, the player who starts isn't guaranteed the most minutes. However, it's also true that by not starting, the bench player's minutes are necessarily capped. Just in terms of managing minutes and getting proper rest, it's far easier to play 30 minutes (just as an example) as a starter...

so, olaseni STILL not starting over woodbury . yeah, I went there again

I have one major issue with starting Woodbury: it places an inherent limit on Olaseni's minutes. When both players are playing at their average level, Olaseni is the more productive player in almost every facet of the game (more on that later). As a result, Olaseni ought to have the first...

    Basketball Banquet Awards.....

I think it is perfectly reasonable to say that Basabe was deserving of an award based on what he did this season. Quite simply, he was a better rebounder than White this season. Basabe had a higher total rebounding rate (17.6% vs. 13.1%) and averaged more rebounds per 36 minutes (12.8 vs. 9.5)...

Connor McCaffery seems destined for hoops success

Not to derail the thread, but I believe what cf84 said to be true. The only reason Doug McDermott was not committed to Iowa State was uncertainty over Greg's future. If you will recall, Iowa State was coming off of four losing seasons under McDermott, including an 18-46 record in the Big 12. A...

    Marble Draft Update

DraftExpress, a legitimate website that has been affiliated with Yahoo and NBA.com, has rated Marble as a top 10 senior and projects him as a mid-second rounder. However, for those that aren't aware, most mocks are incredibly hit-or-miss outside of the top 20 picks or so, even late in the draft...

    will gabe start next year

First off, I should say that I am not fundamentally against starting Woodbury over Gabe based on the rest of the rotation. The strengths of Gabe and Basabe are too overlapping, I suspect, for them to player their best while playing together. Furthermore, I do not think Woodbury and McCabe would...

    will gabe start next year

It's hard to find stats that exclude "garbage time." Further, it's not fair to exclude stats that a player records in games that end up being blowouts, since there's no telling how much his player influenced that outcome. As a result, I'll leave that point alone. I want to discuss your...

    will gabe start next year

Game is better by every single metric, which I'll attempt to illustrate with a look at some advanced stats from conference play. (The trends are similar if you include the non-conference schedule, but I wanted to focus on their play against legitimate competition.) 1. Gabe has more than a...

    will gabe start next year

If there is any justice in the world, he should. I tend to think the only reason Woodbury continues to start over Gabe [despite being a worse rebounder, shot-blocker, P&R defender (Woodbury is competent but he is significantly slower to recover, forcing help defenders to drop into the paint...

    CHA will it be rocking?

For people mentioning the crowd at the Dayton NIT game, I think it is worth mentioning that there were no in-stadium advertisements played during the stoppage of plays, allowing fan momentum to carry through timeouts. During the regular season, we have a bunch of amateur advertisements killing...

    Wiggins

Thank you for actually making a comparison of Wiggins to a prospect since LeBron and not LeBron himself. Durant is a great player to pick, since he had fantastic collegiate numbers and has developed into the best scorer in the NBA. However, if I were going off of collegiate production, I would...

    Wiggins

Too often, people let knowledge of what players become mar their memories of what they were. LeBron at 18 wasn't on LeBron's ballpark either. Why would you expect Wiggins to be? Also, to say "Wiggins is the best prospect since LeBron" isn't equivalent to saying "Wiggins is as good or better...

    Jok An All-American

Randle only played in 7 games. If anything, it's odd that he was named a McDonald's All-American.

Complaining about the officiating is annoying

We missed some free throws early, but at the end of the day, the free throw shooting wasn't that bad (Iowa was 17-22, Northwestern was 17-23). The real problem was the fact that we attempted 17 fewer shots, and we can blame that on poor defensive rebounding and turnovers.

Could Iowa vs NW Be a Play-In Game for NCAA's?

I can't imagine writing a response like that without actually reading the original post. Absolutely baffling.

    Andy Katz / EPSN

On twitter, he re-tweeted a tweet from Scott Van Pelt: "We have considered the info and say...thumbs down on Iowa storm. The CSC uses a sharp pencil and has ruled. (Iowa neither cares nor should)" Based on that, I'm guessing Katz feels the students storming the court was the "illegitimate storm."

Lebron and Wade mock Nowitzki illness

LeBron never says anything in public? He never makes it about himself? I disagree. The Decision was about as public as it gets. Furthermore, he has made plenty of quotes (in public) that indicate his self-centered nature. I'll only list a few, but here's a pretty detailed list. "Cleveland fans...

Who was the last Iowa hs grad..

Doug McDermott led Creighton in scoring as a freshman. If he's not a go-to guy now, I think he'll be one by the end of his career.
