    Hawkeyes Offer OL Gene Riordan

That wasn't the sound I made when David Ross's knee was introduced to the source of my future children during football practice!

    Alvaro is in the portal

Coulda, shoulda, woulda can be played ad naseum with no difinitive outcome. I was just reacting to your comment that he dissappeared in the games you needed him. While you can certainly find those games--look no further than the elite 8 game--I believe it is a fact you don't get to that game...

    Alvaro is in the portal

Without him this year there was no elite 8 run.

    Alvaro is in the portal

I think that describes most coaches...just so noticably different how Ben manages a game and players compared to Fran.

    Alvaro is in the portal

Charted Alvaro's season. The blue is points, the green rebounds and the gold is minutes. This graph shows the inconsistency from game to game, but production seemed fairly consistent with minutes. In the first three NCAA tourney games he was always in the top 3 scorers, then didn't score against...

Are the Hawks going to the Final Four thread???

I actually thought Sage had a good game too.

    Schedule Ahead...

Have you seen Houston play lately? They started the season slower, but they have two five-star freshmen playing at a high level, with Kingston Flemings coming on as a real stud. I believe they are back up to 3rd in the AP poll this week.

    Eli Sanders

Here was an article that said he liked both Iowa and ISU and references both, but as it was after his decision, focuses a bit more on ISU. Brief summary his three points were: 1) learn from Breece Hall; 2) liked the campus; 3) liked the new facilities. Eli Sanders breaks down commitment to Iowa...

Would have more success at Iowa State

That was one factor, but I didn’t hear him say that was his primary factor, as he also mentioned the relationship he had with some of the ISU players. He wanted to stay instate and clearly liked both programs or he would have made his decision long ago.

    Stanley NFL Draft Stock

Will be an interesting year to see how Stanley develops. Here are a few things I have read (not an complete list by any means): Athlon: Rates him #22 Starting QB: Stanley enters his third year as the starter with a chance to etch his name into Iowa’s record book. The Wisconsin native set a new...

    Moss Transferring

And what are you basing that on? I did a bit of surface fact checking and the difference is single digits, falling a bit short of “way more”. In reference to african american students, both universities are right @3% which I believe likely technically means there are more african american...

If you played football in HS, did you suffer a concussion (poll)?

I had one. Happened on a kick-off receive towards the end of the game. I was in the front five, dropped back to block and went helmet to helmet with a player from the other team. I guess he stumbled backwards into my teammate with the ball, tackling without knowing he was doing it. I was told I...

    Nunge is Needed

I actually like Nunge’s potential and agree that he gives you something as a big the others don’t. Having said that, he is not the answer to what ails the Hawks. He isn’t a three where he was forced to play at times out of position, and you haven’t needed him there as much with Joe W. holding...

Connor Mac wows in the defense free all star game!

I think the “lack of love” stems from a few different items: a) even when he was ranked as a basketball recruit, many saw him as a baseball player so discounted that rating; b) while a 4* on some services, it wasn’t a concensus ranking. If i remember correctly rivals had him highest in the 50...

Connor Mac wows in the defense free all star game!

Custer certainly wasn’t a top fifty recruit, but was a top 150 recruit if I remember correctly.

In-State PG D.J. Carton Places Hawkeyes Among Top 6

That isn’t much leverage on a 5-Star recruit. That might work on kids worried about getting a scholarship, or even one on the borderline of high major, but not a player of this caliber who has his choice of schools. He could likely read your “tells” better than Bret Maverick!

    Fran stands pat..."We're Good".

I actually agree with the rest of your points. When you said coaches don’t make a difference, that was what I commented on. The level of competitiveness of the greats drives them in ways others aren’t. Coaches aren’t the only difference by far, but to say they have no impact just wasn’t true...

    Fran stands pat..."We're Good".

Great players are great competitors, but they still need to be pushed. If not why would pro teams, and colleges for that matter, pay millions of dollars for coaches? Here is what Dean Smith said about coaching Jordan, “ In practice, I tried to push him to see if he could win that drill, win that...
