Landon Donovan cut from World Cup roster

facepalm. No. There were 7 guys who were sure things barring injury: Dempsey, Bradley, Howard, Guzan, Jones, Johnson...and Altidore. Suggesting that Jozy a) shouldn't be or b) almost wasn't on the roster is just...how can I put this? Extremely naiive. C'mon guys, you're embarrassing yourselves.

Landon Donovan cut from World Cup roster

With regard to this statement, you have to be absolutely kidding me. He hasn't put the ball in the net, I'll give you that, but Jozy Altidore is the best pure striker this country has ever produced. Bar none. He's 24 and this statement is true without a shadow of a doubt. Jozy Altidore is...

Unofficial World Cup/US Nats Victory Thread

One can experience victory without winning an entire tournament. We aren't going to win the World Cup. Anyone who thinks we will is a moron. It doesn't mean that we can't have a successful cup. You're a Hawk fan, right? You post here, right? Do you think national championships are imminent?

Unofficial World Cup/US Nats Victory Thread

Almost here, folks. I personally can't wait. This one could be special if we beat Ghana. Cue the weird soccer trolling in 5, 4, 3....

Landon Donovan cut from World Cup roster

Sorry that I'm late to the thread. It's obviously a huge gamble and a major statement that Klinsmann wants to break from the past of US Soccer. He's challenging his guys by creating a power vacuum - a move that's not entirely unusual in world soccer. Donovan is certainly one of the 10 or so...

    All-Time Starting 5 on a budget

I don't have an issue with guys not being on the the list: I don't think these are supposed to be the 25 best Hawkeyes. My issue is within the context of the list older players (Williams, Johnson, King) are undervalued, most likely because whoever put this together (BHGP) doesn't really know...

    All-Time Starting 5 on a budget

Right, but at least those guys are on the radar. I'll bet that if you polled Iowa basketball fans, most of them would not know who Carl Cain, Bill Logan, Sam Williams, John Johnson, Chris Pervall, Glen Vidnovic, Chad Calabria, Kevin Kunnert and Bruce King are. That's insane. You're about...

    All-Time Starting 5 on a budget

I suppose it shouldn't be, but the fact that 50s/60s/70s Iowa basketball is so thoroughly forgotten is amazing to me. Now, I'm 34, and I'll admit it took some research to bring myself up to speed, but the fact that the athletic department doesn't do more to glamorize 68-70 in particular is odd...

    All-Time Starting 5 on a budget

This is pretty much the right answer. I went: BJ Williams Johnson Horton Stokes But Ronnie is pretty much irreplaceable. Anybody who doesn't have both Williams and Johnson at $3 is an absolute fool.

    Justin Hilliard

Most on here know me as an insufferable optimist. So it hurts me to type this. But in addition to being an insufferable optimist, I am also an avid follower of Iowa football recruiting. Which is why I put our chances at 2%. Which is to say 0% with a margin of error +/- 2%. He's one of...

Harty: Is Fran still the man with the plan?

125-105. Average finish was 4.7th place, and 10-8 Big Ten record.

Dienhart: Big Ten should be done with Notre Dame. Forever.

I have, literally, never visited an ISU sports forum of any kind. What's wrong with you people?

One player, who's the key for success next season??

"Key for success" is tough to quantify, but I will say this: the player who is going to be asked to do more to contribute to the alchemy that is next season is Gabe Olaseni. If he can truly pull off the 4/5 combo, we're going to be in a very, very good spot.

Thank you to whoever shared this on facebook. You obviously have a huge amount of friends who like to read about Iowa basketball history.

I don't. The numbers above come directly from Ensworth via email.

Dispelling the Fleming 3 pt% Myth

While Fleming did shoot in the high 20s% from 3 in AAU ball last year, an Ensworth coach reported to me that he shot "right around 40%" for his junior year of high school. He also listed his high school stats as: 19.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.1 assists per game. He commented that Andrew is extremely...
