We had a budding NBA star on the roster last year and couldn’t win a tourney game

Depends on your motives for setting the goals. If you always set the bar just out of reach just so you can rag on the coach, it gets a little annoying.

Is Fran McCaffery Building A PowerHouse at Iowa?

Who knows, maybe when Fran finally breaks the sweet 16 ice he will win it all like he did when he finally got the Big 10 tournament monkey off his back.

Is Fran McCaffery Building A PowerHouse at Iowa?

Fran had a good enough regular season to have a really good chance to make it to the sweet 16 twice. The fact that he missed on both was crap shoot part in my opinion. The good news is, those two times were the last two years. And without covid, it would have been the last three years he had a...

Is Fran McCaffery Building A PowerHouse at Iowa?

I think most of the under rated guys Fran brought in were already good. The recruiting services missed on guys like White Garza, and the Murrays. Getting guys the recruiting services call 4 starts won't necessarily make us better than getting actual 4 star talent that recruiting services under...

We had a budding NBA star on the roster last year and couldn’t win a tourney game

My issue is when someone says "coach can't get over the wall". The wall is right past the highest point that coach has made it. If and when he makes a sweet 16, the wall will just move to the elite 8.

Is Fran McCaffery Building A PowerHouse at Iowa?

I think I saw a stat that Iowa finished with the highest scoring average in the conference for 4 straight years now. That's gotta be a pretty big selling point too. Right or wrong, scoring points is how you get noticed. If Garza goes to Wisconsin he probably scores 18 or 19 per game instead of...

We had a budding NBA star on the roster last year and couldn’t win a tourney game

A 65% Keegan is probably enough to beat Richmond 8 or 9 out of 10 times. If our budding NBA star was 100% we can probabky beat them 10 out of 10. Keegan almost never disappeared in games and he completely disappeared in that one. We agree that we should have still won with an unhealthy Keegan...

We had a budding NBA star on the roster last year and couldn’t win a tourney game

Is there such a thing as a good tournament coach? Good coaches put together good teams, and good teams win tournament games. But there is also a lot of randomness in one and done tournaments. If Fran was a better coach he would have had better teams and had a lot better chance at doing good in...

We had a budding NBA star on the roster last year and couldn’t win a tourney game

Also our NBA star got hurt that game. That's a big reason for the loss.

You mean didn't, not couldn't. They definitely could have won a tournament game.

    WOW got Procter

I wasn't being sarcastic. I guess it's a pet peeve of mine when someone somehow thinks they are better, or more respectful, because they happen to be good at spelling. I guess if you're the type of person who googles someone's name every time you make a post because its important you get the...

    WOW got Procter

That was kinda my point. It's easy for some people. Some people suck at spelling. It has nothing to do with disrespecting the person who's name you misspell. All it means I you're a person who can't spell for shit. Who cares?

    WOW got Procter

Some people can see a name once and know how to spell it. Some people have to spend time studying a name or Google it every time to spell it right. It's a weird flex.

Brock Harding Commits to Iowa Basketball

Gesell and Bohannon both started and were decent as freshman. Bowen is a higher ranked recruit than they were. I guess maybe Gesell was a little higher ranked. Either way, it's not unheard of for Fran to start a freshman point guard and field a decent team.

Brock Harding Commits to Iowa Basketball

I see what you mean but I'm not sure I agree. Having guys like Garza and Murray are more fun to watch and probably better for the program than a team full of just good players.
