Ahh the old trickle down theory eh? You realize that was a massive failure right? The biggest theft from American working people in history? It seems you'd prefer to have modern robber barons with more than enough money than they could spend in 1000 lifetimes while the poor, children and elderly starve.

Meanwhile you have companies like Exxon and Tyson price gouging the F out of the American public claiming "inflation" while at the same time having their highest quarterly profits IN HISTORY.

What the F is it with conservatives and their hatred of poor people and immigrants? They don't already have it hard enough? It's hilarious to me how conservative media convinces people to march together lockstep against the tyranny of SNAP.

I'll be anxiously awaiting your next "bootstrap" argument.

Wow, your post is so well said. Thanks as that is it exactly. If you just think about it logically and rationally, there is way more than enough wealth in this country so that kids do not need to worry about being hungry and where their next meal is coming from and for all kids and people to have enough medical care while the rich people can still be rich but instead of having $700 million or $100 billion they maybe only have 70% of that much.

The Forbes 400 list holds $4.5 trillion. That wealth is mostly held in stonks that can swing wildly up or down in value, as the collective wealth of that group increased by about 40% year over year, primarily on the back of a massive bull market in stonks.

Your assumption is that you could tax 30% of that wealth and presumably provide additional benefits. 30% of $4.5 trillion is $1.35 trillion. The budget deficit in 2021 was $2.7 trillion. Your tax proposal would fill one half of the deficit for one year. A 100% wealth tax on billionaires would not even cover the deficit spending that occurred in 2020 and 2021.

Oh build the strawman as controlling the deficit is a totally different problem, animal, etc than getting food and healthcare to kids that need it and whose parents cant pay for it.

Keep propping up the strawman in the field.

And of course, you and so many people fall head first over your heels worrying, complaining, fretting or whatever it is you do about budget deficits and the national debt. First of all over two years of Covid has added a huge amount to the last few years deficit budget spending.

But ponder this all you financial and economic wonderkinds, how much wealth does the US have in their petroleum, natural gas, and mineral rights owned "by us the citizens"? The last time I read about this 8-10 years ago the petroleum, natural gas, and mineral rights wealth of the Govt was about $130 trillion (see below from a lot of sources).

Blow your national and budgetary debt false argument out the window as that amount can pay off the debt. Plus the fact that the govt is or was until recently selling these rights at very low, very old price rates.

"Below the ground, the federal government owns the rights to mineral and energy leases, from which they receive royalties, rents, and bonus payment," writes the Institute for Energy Research, an industry group.

According to their estimates, those assets are worth $128 trillion. That's around eight times the national debt.

Plus, governments can exact use taxes very easily with tolls, online transaction taxes, sell off some of their many many buildings, etc to raise money.

There is no actual national debt. It's only on paper and the Fed can make it disappear quickly. Makes most of us poorer, but that is the truth. That is what we are doing..

Below is a good example of the way some people look at the situation of kids and families in the US suffering from wanton neglect and shortage of available food, housing, healthcare and other items for them. I read about some religious women, nuns, former nuns, who decry the actions of so many so called ProLife advocates as actually ProBirthers. Read the item below and you can hear it in what so many citizens say, which is "iam against abortion but I do not want my taxes going to help aid to dependent children, SNAP, school lunches, universal/better/less expensive healthcare for all kids and people who can't afford it". I say in this country which is so rich that it is unethical and immoral for kids to not have the basics, what they need.

You can find examples on both sides. Republicans tried to shut down the adoption credit. Liberals shut down funding for faith based adoptions which do the vast majority of special needs adoptions. Republicans like Reagan and the Bush's used abortion for votes and did very little to change abortion.

Conservative Christians adopt at 2x the rate of "normal" people, by far and away the biggest factor unless you want to go with Caucasians adopt 3/4 of adopted kids and the majority of minority kids. Libs try to keep whites from adopting black babies.

I'm a Christian conservative and adopted 2 special needs kids. I usually don't vote Democratic as that usually means pro-abortion, but I don't vote Republican either if I think they are full of shit. Trump is/was a looney greedy person not fit to be president.

What does happen is that many conservatives don't want to pay taxes. Many don't adopt either. Most don't. 5 percent of conservative Christians have adopted btw, again much higher than the average.

SNAP is a horrible program that feeds kids unhealthy food. It is a part of the USDA funding that mostly goes to support your local richest person in town farmer. Btw, Trump was the biggest socialist president concerning farmers in history.

Our taxes mostly go to military spending. The US ranks about last per capita in aid to poor countries per capita for NON MILITARY AID.

The fact is that most people don't give a crap about kids w/o legal parents, especially those with needs. It IS the conservative Christians that do and even that is a minority.

The west has now spent as much on military aid to Ukraine as what they didn't want to spend on aid to bring them up to EU standards for membership. Thousands of kids will die in Ukraine from the war.

What really started the war? They have a horrible human being as Dictator who took offense at a LIBERAL sitting VP of the US who wanted to make his family rich using his political influence in an internationally politically sensitive region with an idiot dictator. That could have just as easily been a Republican so it's equal opportunity.

Look in the mirror and if you want to bitch about this, actually do something about it like adopting or supporting a family that does.

Der Spiegel lays it down

It's going to make him more dangerous. He's had this vision for Russia ever since the Soviet Union collapsed so this is his full focus. Once he started, he already has in his mind he will not stop until the directive is done.

He's of the old thought that the greatest Russian leaders have expanded the Russian borders so this is his objective. This is what he wants to be known for historically, expanding the borders.

He's willing to take his own country down doing it. Too bad there aren't people/officials in Russia with the balls to do something about it for their country and people.

The Ukrainmericans hit another naval vessel. Just a few days ago US media was speculating on the next best target after the Moskva. That's what they hit. The Biden Admin let it slip that they were aided and now are backtracking. May 9 could be interesting. The Russians hit Ukraine hard for a couple of days of missiles.

Ukraine is discussing hitting the land bridge to Crimea from Russia. That would be interesting as though Russia has claimed south Ukraine, they still don't have total control and can't supply Crimea from Ukraine.

One of Russia's blunders was that they don't turn the direction of vehicles which causes rubber tires to deteriorate coupled with inadequate tires for the military.

Russian fighter pilots receive about half of the training as US pilots. The US AF has trained Ukrainian pilots to use Generation 4 type fighter aircraft using US tactics and they are comparable to F 16, F 15 and so on.

In the Vietnam War, US early on owned Vietnam in aircraft though there were losses. Later, Russian pilots started flying and also training Vietnamese and they narrowed things up to about 2.5 to 1. In Korea, US fighters had a very difficult time.

North Vietnam Regular Army was actually a pretty darned good military and for their period would put Russia to shame. When China invaded in 1979 to punish Vietnam for being in Cambodia where most of the NVA was, the Vietnam vets who had fought the US for years punched the unsuspecting Chinese in the nose using the "old" guys as reservists.

They got to love them some Ruskies. I mean Repubs always vote for making more military equipment etc. so I guess they want to help Putin.

The Republican senators opposed to the plan were Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.), John Boozman (Ark.), Mike Braun (Ind.), Mike Crapo (Idaho), Bill Hagerty (Tenn.), Josh Hawley (Mo.), Mike Lee (Utah), Cynthia Lummis (Wyo.), Roger Marshall (Kan.), Rand Paul (Ky.) and Tommy Tuberville (Ala.).

Not really surprised

Really not bragging, but I'm likely the most experienced on this board in Ukraine. I have a number of friends there and have traveled there extensively due to its development agriculturally.

I also know very little about these politicians except for Rand Paul who I don't really like. Fact is Ukraine does have a NAZI problem and it's not going away (and other major problems as well).

I love the country, culture and the people. Here are some real concerns.

1. The judicial system is incredibly corrupt. We have judicial issues as well, but the scale is beyong comprehension and I have experienced it. He who has the biggest bribe wins.
2. The law enforcement system is incredibly corrupt. I have experienced it.
3. Ukraine is probably 15 years ahead of the US on how they treat the poor. Govt officials don't want pensioners to live or those who have handicaps...so on. I am concerned about the direction the US is going.
4. Politicians are expected to get payoffs. Zelensky is now a billionaire.
5. Their right-wing extremist population is no bigger as a percentage than the US. The difference is they were invited into parliamentary Govt (they are not a republic) to form a coalition of being pro-west.
6. When fighting began 8 years ago it was only the NAZI fighters that were effective, with AZOV being the strongest. That is where the US including the US 101 ABN invested training into Ukraine. Ukraine incorporated them into the ARMY in part to try and control them and because of the coalition.
7. The west is now pouring incredible numbers of weapons into Ukraine into a military that can be described as great heroic fighters led by right wing extremists at first and now the rank and file. What is particularly interesting is the military is not doing wide scale drafting of everyday younger men.
8. There is NO accountability with these weapons pouring into Ukraine. Prior to the war, there were reports from within some of the right wing groups that they were planning on fighting in the coming US civil war (not saying there will be one, but it was a stated goal of the Right Sector. The amount of weapons being supplied is mind boggling.
9. Ukraine is not running the war at a deep level. It is the US and make no mistakes about that. The Ukrainians can be fierce, brave and crazy. They now train well with US help. They have no real planning at various levels within the Army. The US has trained Ukrainians in west tactics such as taking 4th Gen fighters from Russia and Soviet era which are nearly compatible with F 18s, 15s, 16s, but using US tactics.
10. I'm not sure what to believe but the bioweapons labs conversations just don't seem to be going away. Hope it's only a conspiracy.

The situation in Ukraine is crazy. Crazy it ever started and how it is progressing. In the past 50 years whenever a West trained military goes agains Russian/Soviet militaries in a large scale ground war with air support etc, the west militaries smash them to pieces in astronomical numbers.

6 day war
Yom Kippur War
Desert Storm
Desert Shield
Ukraine
Falklands

If I were a US politician I would be demanding more accountability.

Are we really defending Ukraine or are we defending Biden's economic interests in Ukraine?
